Welcome to St John Fisher & St Thomas More Roman Catholic Church
Our parish family extends a very warm welcome – through the pages of this website – to you all, whether you are a regular parishioner, new to the area, returning to the Church, a visitor, or perhaps just interested in what we do. St John Fisher & St Thomas More Catholic Church is situated between the villages of Burley in Wharfedale and Menston, we also serve Tranmere Park and Hawksworth village. Our address is Bradford Road, Burley in Wharfedale, LS29 7PX.
Please accept the prayers and good wishes of our parish family for you and for your loved ones. Do contact us if you wish to be involved in any of the activities detailed on this site; or if you are hoping to explore the Catholic faith as it is practised in the world today.
You can read news items, messages from Fr Tim and download the latest bulletins. Please see our Youth, family & Children’s Liturgy page – it shares some thoughts and activities for our children and their families. Our Tree of Life page celebrates gaining CAFOD’s LiveSimply award. Pope Leo (and Pope Francis in Laudato Si’) asks us how the whole church – including every member of our parish family – can respond each and every day through prayer and by action to care for creation, our common home, and to hear the cry of the poor.

PRAYER FOR POPE LEO XIV
O God, who chose your servant, in succession to the Apostle Peter as shepherd of the whole flock, look favourably on the supplications of your people and grant that, as Vicar of Christ on earth, he may confirm his brethren and that the whole Church may be in communion with him in the bond of unity, love and peace, so that in you, the shepherd of souls, all may know the truth and attain life eternal.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Welcome to the website of
Sacred Heart, Ilkley; Ss John Fisher and Thomas More, Burley in Wharfedale and Our Lady and English Martyrs, Addingham
Welcome to our website, the website of three Catholic communities who gather to worship in three churches situated in the valley of the River Wharfe, an area of outstanding natural beauty just south of the Yorkshire Dales. Within the boundaries of our three parishes, you will find the picturesque ruins of the medieval Augustinian Priory at Bolton Abbey and the wilds of Ilkley Moor (where you may find yourself walking “baht ‘at”). This is also an area where the Catholic faith has been proclaimed and witnessed to over many centuries.
We, in the Catholic parishes of Sacred Heart, Ilkley, St John Fisher & St Thomas More, Burley in Wharfedale, and Our Lady & English Martyrs, Addingham, are communities dedicated to following the Lord Jesus Christ in fidelity and trust. Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart.” Week by week our parishioners set aside worries and anxieties, rejoicing with others who come together in worship on Sunday, discovering how the life, death and resurrection of Jesus give meaning to our own lives, celebrating his loving presence among us, and going forth to live the message of Christ in our daily life and work.
Whatever your reason for visiting our website, I am sure that a first-time visitor of any faith or none, an enquirer seeking information, someone who has been away from the Church, or a long-time parishioner, you are very welcome. I hope that you will find something on this website to interest you and begin to answer some of your questions.
With my prayers for you and your loved ones,
Fr Tim Swinglehurst, Parish Priest
